I choose to see the beauty in everyday things and the opportunity to add beauty and meaning to ordinary objects. Take a common household switch-plate . . . add photos, decorative papers, the single remaining earring from your favorite pair (lost while gardening), a ticket stub, lace or buttons, an inspiring word or phrase. A simple necessity becomes a daily inspiration, a meditation on your personal story.
I feel my art combines the principled eye of the fine artist from my years of studying art history with the ingenuity and tactility of the crafter from my personal and family history of making things. Sewing - clothing, costumes, curtains, hand-embroidery of all kinds, dolls, jewelry, floral design, miniatures and woodworking all contribute to my vision of artful craft.
